The deluxe edition of Lace's EP titled Liar’s Notebook is accompanied by a separate remix of “Liar Liar” by Alighted. Building around vocalist Mana Contractor’s lead, Alighted flips the original track using an array of programmed and synthesized sounds resulting in an otherworldly assortment of electronic textures. The first half of the remix reinterprets the original music with the club in mind as a warm synth arpeggio floats over rumbling subs and sequences of warped drum patterns. A lush interlude follows the final chorus—an ambient tide that pulls the listener out into deeper waters and warns of something sinister lurking beneath the surface. The suspense is broken as the bass returns, signaling a shift into some dark twisted fantasy of the original. Contractor’s voice manifests as a poltergeist accompanied by the pitter-patter of tiny nails that make up the sparse and staggering groove. The remix is brought to an uncomfortable silence in the wake of crying guitars and modulating delay lines left behind by her voice and a heavy synthesized bass.
